LANSING, Mich. — State Sen. Rick Outman on Thursday applauded the recent announcement that the city of Belding was included in a round of road funding grants for communities across the state.
“It is important that we make these long-term investments toward maintaining and improving our local infrastructure,” said Outman, R-Six Lakes. “The grant program is a good opportunity for the state and local governments to work together to address and fund critical projects.”
The city of Belding will resurface Bridge Street from State Street (M-44) to Ellis Street. The road work includes milling the existing surface, resurfacing with new asphalt, replacing the curb and gutters, and new pavement markings.
Bridge Street is an all-season roadway connecting the state trunkline, M-44, to downtown Belding, schools, parks, and industrial areas. This segment of Bridge Street is used by commercial vehicles to haul materials used for the manufacturing of automotive parts, furniture, and appliances.
“Michigan families and businesses rely on quality roads,” Outman said. “The road condition of Bridge Street is declining, and these funds will make the much-needed repairs possible.”
The total project cost is $483,600, with $375,000 in state funding and $108,600 from the city of Belding.
